Fujitsu Stylistic 1000 Tips, Observations
Getting HiRes Color from the Monochrome ST1000
You can plug any color external monitor into the ST1000 and get color. You can also operate it at 800 by 600. In Windows, set the resolution to 800 by 600 and do not apply the settings. Re-boot, then disable the LCD screen through the BIOS. Boot it up with the external monitor attached.
Both screens can be on at once as an option, but only at 640 by 480.
Moving data in and out of the ST1000
LAN card--You can install a LAN card in the PC card slot, and move data back and forth to a desktop computer.
PCMCIA reader on desktop-- You can install a PC card type III reader on your desktop computer, and simply remove the HDD from the ST1000, and read/write directly with your desktop PC. This method works great if you need to load up a new drive with an OS or very large applications. You can find these readers for around $25 which attach to the parallel port.
Serial connection-- A standard 9-pin to 9-pin null modem cable can connect the ST1000 to a desktop computer. You can then use Windows direct connect utility to transfer data. You can find this option in Windows 98 under "setup", "add/remove programs", and pick the Windows Setup tab.
Floppy drive-- The ST1000 has a floppy drive port, but I have only so far found the Fujitsu drive to work with it.
Other standard ways-- Like LapLink, etc. using the parallel port
The Stylus
Not working?-- If the pen does not seem to work, check the battery. It is a AAAA, which is readily available at Radio Shack. Also, when you unscrew the stylus, you will see the brass contact sticking out from the side. Make sure it is clean. Use a slightly abrasive sandpaper or pencil eraser to clean it.
Will not boot up
Check hard drive-- The hard drive can come loose, especially during shipping. Remove it and re-seat it back in (with the power off, of course.)
Verify BIOS settings-- Make sure it is set to boot from the hard drive. To enter into the BIOS settings, double-tap the stylus on the screen during boot up as instructed on the screen.
